WakeMed Purchases Land in Eastern Wake County for WakeMed East Healthplex
RALEIGH, N.C. - The WakeMed Health & Hospitals Board of Directors has approved the purchase of ten acres of land in the Wendell Falls subdivision off of US Highway 64. The land will be home to WakeMed East Healthplex.
The Certificate of Need (CON) application to develop WakeMed East Healthplex was issued on March 22, 2007. The $22 million healthplex will feature a 24-hour stand-alone emergency department, CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography, general radiology, fluoroscopy, laboratory services and physician offices.
The facility will be very similar to WakeMed North Healthplex, located at 10000 Falls of Neuse Rd. WakeMed North Healthplex opened in 2002 with a CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography, general radiology, fluoroscopy, laboratory services, operating rooms and physician offices. In summer 2005, the state�s first stand alone emergency department opened at WakeMed North Healthplex and the community response has been outstanding. In 2006, WakeMed North Healthplex Emergency Department had 23,135 patient visits.

With the addition of WakeMed East Healthplex, we will ensure these new residents have convenient access to high-quality health care services.�
According to CAMPO , 11,357 new households are slated to be added to Eastern Wake County between 2005 and 2015.
Construction will begin on WakeMed East Healthplex following the completion of a new highway interchange being built near where Eagle Rock Road passes under US 64 in fall 2008. WakeMed East Healthplex is expected to be complete by fall 2009. WakeMed will add at least 50 new full time equivalent (FTE) employees to staff the facility. WakeMed also has the option to purchase and additional 10 acres adjacent to the property in Wendell Falls.
