Influenza season is back! 

How can you be sure in less than 48 hours that this patient has the flu?

We are offering a Rapid test for the differential diagnosis of Influenza A and B.

 One-hour result turn-around-time from specimen receipt at WakeMed Raleigh Campus or
WakeMed Cary Hospital

 Results faxed or called at your request.

 Specimens typed for both Influenza A & B using one swab.

 High sensitivity and specificity. 

 Specimen type:

Throat, Nasopharyngeal swab, Nasopharyngeal Wash or Nasal Aspirate collected using polyester, Dacron or Rayon wire swabs. (Do NOT use cotton, calcium alginate or wooden shaft swabs.)

Specimen Transport:

Swabs need to be placed into transport media before sending them to the laboratory.

Specimen Collection Reminder:    Our outpatient laboratory sites are only equipped to collect blood, and routine or clean catch urine samples.  In the best interest of patient care, please do NOT send a patient to one of these locations for influenza specimen collection.
