Specific WakeMed Cary Hospital projects and initiatives guided by Gierman include: the recent ED expansion; enhancements to patient food services; the WOW Service Excellence Program; major upgrades to radiology technology, including nuclear medicine, MRI, 64-slice CT equipment; planning for and design of the new WakeMed Cary Hospital bed tower; and significant improvements in performance measures related to publicly reported data. Gierman also served as WakeMed Cary Hospitals senior leader during the recent JCAHO survey, as well as during major community incidents ranging from the Cary water supply E. coli scare to last weeks chemical-related fire in Apex.

Gierman is a resident of Cary. She holds a bachelors degree from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan and a masters degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Gierman officially assumes her new role on October 12.

Dr. Bill Atkinson, WakeMed president & CEO, comments, We are truly fortunate to have a proven internal candidate with Lisbeth Giermans demonstrated leadership and operational expertise.
