Diabetes Clinic
The WakeMed Pediatric Diabetes Program is pleased to announce the addition of medical care for pediatric diabetes patients in the Wake County area. In addition to providing education, our diabetes team is now able to provide medical diabetes management for children ages 3 - 18 with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Our Medical Director, Dr Mark Piehl, is an internist and pediatric intensivist at WakeMed. Dr. Alissa Clough is also board-certified in both internal medicine and pediatrics. Both physicians have a special interest in diabetes care for children and young adults.
The addition of a physician to our team enhances the multidisciplinary approach we take to diabetes care, and provides an additional option for newly diagnosed families. As with all of our programming, diabetes clinic patients receive state-of-the-art diabetes management and education including:
- ADA Standards of Care by an ADA Recognized Program
- Comprehensive Insulin Pump Program
- Evidence-based diabetes management using intensive insulin therapy
- Continuous Glucose Monitoring Studies
- Certified Diabetes Educators and Registered Dietitians
- Diabetes Case Manager and Counselor
- Spanish Translator
