WakeMed Raleigh Campus Named Among Top 50 Hospitals in the Nation
Raleigh, N.C. WakeMed Health & Hospitals is pleased to announce that WakeMed Raleigh Campus has been named among the 50 Top Hospitals in the nation based on the Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey. WakeMed Raleigh Campus is the only hospital in Wake County and one of only three in North Carolina to be named as one of the 50 Top Hospitals.
WakeMed's system-wide focus on quality, patient safety and outcomes measurement is quickly having a positive impact not only on our delivery of care, but also on our recognition as a top performing health system in the nation, commented Dr. Bill Atkinson, WakeMed president and CEO.
Atkinson continued, We are very proud of the hard work and dedication to high quality care and patient safety that each WakeMed staff member, physician and volunteer embraces. These efforts are making a positive difference in the lives of the patients we serve.
Fifty adult hospitals and nine childrens hospitals in the US were named to the list, which was based on survey results from over 1,200 hospitals. The Leapfrog Hospital Quality and Safety Survey is the only national survey that provides a full assessment of a hospitals quality and safety. The survey asks hospitals about their awareness and action on 30 Safe Practices for Better Healthcare endorsed by the National Quality Forum. Of the 1,263 responding hospitals, 60 percent have fully implemented the practices in at least one of the four Leapfrog patient safety categories.
The survey collects data from hospital on their progress toward implementing practices in four categories:
*Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE): Do physicians enter patient prescriptions and other orders into computers linked to error prevention software?
*ICU Physician Staffing: Are intensive care units staffed by trained ICU specialists (intensivists)?
*Evidence-Based Hospital Referral: How well do hospitals perform in five specific high-risk procedures and how well does the hospital care for patients with two high-risk neonatal conditions?
*Leapfrog Safe Practices Score: How well are hospitals progressing on the other 27 National Quality Forum Safe Practices?
The complete list of hospitals and a related article are published in the October 16th issue of Modern Healthcare.
