Dads Bond While Working Out at Father's Day Powerstroll

Finding time to work, workout and spend time with baby can be tough for a new parent. WakeMed Birth & Parent Education in conjunction with Healthy Moms Powerstroll recently sponsored a Father's Day Powerstroll to teach dads how they can burn calories and bond with baby all at the same time!

On Saturday, June 17, many Triangle fathers gathered at Pullen Park for the Powerstroll, which is a circuit interval training that includes baby in a stroller. Moms were invited to relax and picnic in the park. The event was free, but dads were asked to bring new unopened diapers or shrink-wrapped formula for donation to the North Carolina Foodbank.

Exercising with a stroller is a unique way for parents to get a quality outdoor workout and still be able to attend to their babys needs. Just pushing a stroller burns 150 calories if Mom or Dad covers 1 and 1/2 miles in 30 minutes. Stroller exercise includes cardiovascular exercise, functional strength training, core and flexibility.
