David C. Coulter Joins WakeMed's Senior Executive Staff

RALEIGH, N.C. � WakeMed Health & Hospitals names David C. Coulter as Senior Vice President and Administrator � Raleigh Campus.

In this role, Coulter will be responsible for managing the overall strategic direction and operations of WakeMed�s Raleigh Campus, which includes a 515-bed tertiary referral hospital and a 68-bed physical rehabilitation hospital. The Raleigh Campus is home to two emergency departments and the region�s premier Heart Center, and continues to experience exceptional growth with the recent addition of 57 observation beds and a newly expanded Heart Center. Coulter will also be responsible for guiding the development of 60 additional acute care beds planned for the Raleigh Campus.

Coulter joins WakeMed after serving as Rex Healthcare�s Vice President of Operations since 1992. He brings to WakeMed years of experience in managing operations for Rex Healthcare, where he has a proven track record of leading the organization�s quality initiatives and patient safety programs, as well as inpatient and outpatient operations. He is also recognized for advancing physician recruitment and relations, including the development of a strong primary care network.

Prior to his work with Rex Healthcare, Coulter served as Director, Physician Relations for Prudential Insurance Company of America in the greater Washington � Baltimore area. He has also worked for notable health care institutions such as Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and Carilion Medical Center, in Roanoke, Virginia.

Coulter earned his BA from Virginia Military Institute and his MHA from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is married with two grown children.
