Cardiac Rehab Program

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at WakeMed Healthworks is a North Carolina state-certified, medically directed program for individuals who have had a heart attack, coronary artery by-pass surgery, ongoing angina (chest pain) or other cardiac event.  The cardiac rehab program is designed to help participants recover from their recent event, to learn more about heart disease and to make lifestyle improvements in order to reduce their cardiovascular risk factors.

Physician referral is required for all participants prior to beginning the program.  Individual health insurance plans may cover all or part of the cardiac rehabilitation program, although coverage does vary.

The cardiac rehabilitation program has four components:

  • Exercise therapy
  • Nutrition and dietary modification
  • Risk factor education
  • Stress management counseling

The cardiac rehabilitation staff includes:

  • Medical director
  • ACLS Registered Nurses
  • Exercise and fitness specialists
  • Registered Dietitian
  • Psychosocial Counselor
