WakeMed and The News & Observer

THANKS TO YOU, WE RAISED OVER $120,000 FOR KIDS!

The News & Observer and WakeMed Health & Hospitals would like to thank you for your generous contributions to Kids Day 2006.  While the final count isn't in yet, this year's Kids Day fundraiser brought in more than $120,000 to support the WakeMed Children's Center.  The money from this successful event will help us purchase a new mobile critical care pediatric transport vehicle.  We'd also like to thank the more than 200 WakeMed volunteers who donated to Kids Day, as well as those who worked to sell newspapers on a cold and rainy day.  You're the best!  And we extend our appreciation to the many local businesses whose encouragement and monetary support helped make this event possible.

For the past five years, The News & Observer and WakeMed Health & Hospitals have worked together to sell a special Kids Day edition of the newspaper for $1 per copy, with 75 cents going directly to help children who receive care at WakeMed.  Kids Day papers feature special content about WakeMed's programs and services for children.

Since 2002, Kids Day has raised nearly $500,000 to help purchase a specialized monitoring system and infant bed for our Intensive Care Nursery and pediatric units.  Kids Day efforts also helped fund the expansion of the Children's Emergency Department, which treats more than 40,000 kids each year.  Our 2005 and 2006 fundraising will benefit children's emergency services at WakeMed locations in Raleigh, North Raleigh and Cary.
