Adult Volunteer Application
Volunteers are valued members of the WakeMed staff. Whether you’re a retiree, a career professional, a high school student or homemaker, WakeMed has a volunteer opportunity for you. Assignments are made based on your skills and interests. One of our Community Services Managers will meet with you to talk about the type of volunteer opportunity you’re looking for and the time commitment you’d like to make. Then, following the completion of a three-hour orientation, you will be ready to begin your volunteer experience!
HeartBeat Newsletter
HeartBeat is a newsletter published on a bi-monthly basis by the Volunteers at WakeMed. Each issue contains valuable information about the special people who volunteer here and the positive impact they make each day on our patients and staff. Click here to read more about what's happening with this exciting group of movers and shakers!
Hospitality Pets Program
The Hospitality Pets Program has been in operation at WakeMed since 1985. It was established in response to the need for programming that would provide sensory stimulation as well as encourage socialization and communication in patients.
All dogs go through an extensive physical and behavioral screening before becoming a part of this program. Once they become honorary members of our staff, our four-legged friends and their owners visit with patients of all ages and varying degrees of mobility.
If you and your pet would like to brighten a patient's day by spending time with them, please contact Volunteer Services. At the Raleigh campus, call 350-8293. At Cary Hospital, call 350-2363.
Is Volunteering For You?
Some of our volunteer placement opportunities include infant/children’s services, adult patient services, non-patient care areas and community services. So if you enjoy clerical work, rocking tiny babies, delivering supplies, sewing or just visiting with people and sharing a smile, an assignment is waiting for you. Satisfy your need for personal fulfillment by helping others at WakeMed.
