The WakeMed emergency department is one of the largest in North Carolina. We provide emergency care for people of all ages, treating over 163,000 patients this past year in our adult emergency department and the Children’s Emergency Department at the Raleigh Campus, and WakeMed Cary Hospital. We’re open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

WakeMed North Healthplex, 10000 Falls of Neuse Road
WakeMed recently built the state’s first 24-hour, full-service freestanding emergency department at the WakeMed North Healthplex located on the corner of Falls of Neuse and Durant Roads in North Raleigh.
The Emergency Department was built in existing space in the 105,000-square-foot building at the cost of $7.1 million. Emergency Services operate 24 hours a day. For more information about this addition to WakeMed, click here.
The Children’s ED – One of a Kind
With the state’s first and only freestanding Emergency Department dedicated to children, we deliver state-of-the-art emergency care in a way that helps kids feel more relaxed and more receptive to treatment.
Completely separate from our adult Emergency Department, the WakeMed Children’s ED is designed to meet both the medical and emotional needs of children. The atmosphere is cheerful and comforting, with bright murals, children’s art on the walls and child-sized furnishings. We offer:
- A team of physicians, nurses, therapists and technicians specially trained in both emergency medicine and pediatrics
- A unique, child-friendly environment
- Private treatment rooms with television and video
- Child-sized instruments and equipment
- 24-hour support from Wake County’s only designated Trauma Center, located next to the Children’s ED
- Child life specialists to calm patients while they are being treated
- A breathing treatment room for asthma patients, equipped with a television and videos
The WakeMed Trauma Center
Trauma is a severe, intentional or unintentional injury that disrupts your body’s basic life system. It can happen anytime or anywhere and is most often due to a motor vehicle crash, a fall or violence.
WakeMed's Raleigh Campus, a North Carolina Level I designated trauma center and the only trauma center in Wake County, serves as a referral center for patients with life-threatening injuries from surrounding counties.
The Trauma Team
A trauma team stands ready 24 hours a day, seven days a week to give immediate care for the seriously injured. The team includes:
· Emergency physicians
· Trauma surgeons
· Respiratory therapists
· Technicians
· Registered nurses
· Chaplain
· Social Worker
Specialist such as orthopaedists, neurosurgeons and plastic and reconstructive surgeons are available as needed. Our services also include five adult intensive care units and a pediatric intensive care unit, as well as a comprehensive acute, inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation program.
