WakeMed Rehab Hospital Receives Approval to Add 16 Beds
WakeMed Health & Hospitals is happy to announce it has received approval from the North Carolina Division of Facility Services to add 16 beds to the Rehab Hospital, bringing the total to 84 inpatient rehabilitation beds. The new beds will enable WakeMed Rehab Hospital to care for previously underserved populations, including immuno-compromised patients, patients with multiple drug-resistant bacteria, and pedatric and adolescent patients.
The new beds will provide additional private rooms, therapy and dining space, and space dedicated to children and young adults. They will be located on a dedicated floor in a new bed tower constructed to house 60 previously approved acute care beds and support space.
WakeMed Rehabilitation Hospital has been running over or near capacity for the past five years, and as the most comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the region, the need for the additional capacity was immediate.

Currently serving more than 7,000 patients each year, our goal is to help people rebuild their health, function and independence. Take a Walk In the Park
The centerpiece of WakeMed Rehab’s facilities is the Health Park, which provides a safe and inviting place for individuals with physical challenges to relearn vital skills for day-to-day living. This indoor park features a café, bank, store and streetscape, therapeutic pool, Wellness Center and gym. A children’s play and therapy center are also included in this unique facility.
Services for Children
WakeMed Rehab offers a wide variety of therapeutic treatments for children who have acquired or congenital disabilities. We are experienced in treating children who suffer from many different medical conditions. Because they are still growing and developing – both physically and emotionally, our care is very specialized and may include:
