Since your baby was just a gleam in your eye, your attention has been focused on doing what's best for your little one.  And, the choice of where to deliver your baby is one of the most important decisions you will ever make.  When you choose WakeMed as your birthplace, you can relax, knowing that we have more than 40 years of experience in maternity care.  Over 7,000 babies are delivered within the WakeMed system each year – more than any other health care system in Wake County.

At WakeMed Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace, mothers and families come first.  The flexible, family-centered approach allows mothers to make their own choices about how they will deliver their babies, giving them the freedom to choose any medically safe method of delivery.  WakeMed assists each mother in developing a birth plan tailored to her needs and welcomes a mother’s choice of support persons during labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care.

Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace – Raleigh

3000 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh, NC

There's no feeling like the joy you experience from having a baby.  At WakeMed Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace – Raleigh, our primary goal is to give mothers the support and encouragement they need to make the birth expereience a memory they'll treasure forever. In Raleigh, most patients deliver in a comfortable, private birthing room that resembles home, complete with a marble bath with tub and shower to help ease the pain of labor. Staff and equipment are brought to the mother so that her birth experience can be a private time.  If the mother’s doctor advises a Cesarean birth, surgical suites are right down the hall.

If dad chooses to spend the night, he can take advantage of the comfortable sleep chair in the mother’s room.  The newborn nursery is located right outside mom’s door.  A refreshment center is also available around the clock for new parents, and a late-night menu of prepared foods can be cooked in a microwave for moms who deliver in the middle of the night.

If problems arise during a mother’s pregnancy or her baby’s birth, there is no better place to be than WakeMed Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace.  The medical staff at the Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace – Raleigh, which includes a perinatologist who specializes in high-risk pregnancies, supports the doctor or midwife caring for a mother if she is hospitalized during her pregnancy.  WakeMed’s highly skilled team of nurses, physicians and other health care professionals are available to handle unexpected complications that may arise during delivery.  Our Raleigh Campus is also home to the county's most experienced and technologically advanced Intensive Care Nursery.  Staff by eight full-time neonatologists - physicians who specialize in caring for critically ill newborns, our Level IV Intensive Care Nursery is also one of only seven national training sites for specialists in infant development.

Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace – Cary

1900 Kildaire Farm Road, Cary, NC

As Cary’s only birthplace, WakeMed Women’s Pavilion & Birthplace – Cary is committed to providing maternity care in a relaxing, home-like environment.  The private suites for labor, delivery and recovery are beautifully decorated and feature a shower and tub with whirlpool jets for hydrotherapy during labor. There is also a sleep chair in the mother’s room for dad or support persons.  Each room includes a small refrigerator, VCR/television and a separate telephone line for Internet connection for personal laptops.  The Coach’s Corner, just down the hall, is equipped with an ice machine, microwave and fully stocked refrigerator to satisfy late night cravings.

Mothers and babies will be moved to a private room after delivery, where they both receive specialized care from our mother/baby nurses.   Our nurses are specially trained to advise moms in newborn care and breastfeeding.  A lactation consultant is also available if you need help with breastfeeding.

Our Cary Campus has a Level III Neonatal Special Care Nursery, which provides care for babies needing short-term intensive care.  When necessary, babies are transferred from Cary Hospital to the Raleigh Campus via our specially equipped Children's Transport Vehicle, staffed by an experienced team of transport professionals.
