WakeMed Foundation Announces Three New Board Members

Raleigh, N.C. � The WakeMed Foundation announced today the addition of three new board members including, Past Wake County School Superintendent Bill McNeal, Radiologist Holly Burge, MD and Cardiothoracic Surgeon Charles Helton, MD. These posts are effective January 1, 2007.

Each of these appointments has a long history and special connection with the community that WakeMed serves,� said Kevin McCarthy, executive director, WakeMed Foundation and vice president of development. We look forward to learning from and growing with each of them over the coming years.�

Bill McNeal retired from his post as superintendent of Wake County Public Schools on July 1, 2006. Upon retirement he became the executive director of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators. McNeal has lived in Raleigh, North Carolina since 1974 and has served as principal in multiple schools in Wake County.

Holly Burge, MD, has been a board-certified radiologist with Wake Radiology Consultants since 1990. During her tenure with Wake Radiology Consultants, she has held positions of leadership within WakeMed including, medical staff treasurer, medical staff president and radiology department chair.

Charles Helton, MD, moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1979 where he founded Carolina Cardiovascular Surgical Associates. Dr. Helton is board certified and continues to practice all aspects of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery at WakeMed.

WakeMed Foundation also announced that Dana Copeland, MD, long-time board member and trusted advisor since 1998, will retire his seat on the Foundation board effective December 31, 2006. McCarthy continued, Dr. Copeland has been an invaluable asset to the WakeMed Foundation Board. He has helped guide the Foundation through a very busy time in WakeMed�s history and we are very grateful to him for his service and dedication.�
