Pre-Diabetes
Dealing with Pre-Diabetes
Before developing type 2 diabetes, one almost always has what is called “pre-diabetes”. Pre-diabetes is a condition where the blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. People with pre-diabetes are at significant risk of developing overt diabetes. However, research has shown that if you take action to manage your blood glucose and weight when you have pre-diabetes, you can delay or prevent type 2 diabetes from developing.
WakeMed’s Diabetes Management Program offers a 3 1/2-hour, one-day seminar to assist those at risk for diabetes called “Dealing With Pre-Diabetes”. The class focuses on nutrition, weight management, diet, exercise and behavior change. Classes are taught by a registered nurse and registered dietitian.
The fee for the class is $55.00. Unfortunately, this class is not billable to insurance. Personal checks are accepted.
“Dealing With Pre-Diabetes” class is offered at WakeMed Cary Hospital and WakeMed North Healthplex.
